She wanted hippos instead of people for her wedding cake toppers. What can I say...she's awesome. Aliya, my sister, (also published on this site wearing a bleach design hippo shirt) got married last summer to Mark Verbrigghe. There is a long story behind the hippos, and I'm not sure what it is really...she may leave it in a comment.

They are made from plasticine (like sculpey) on an armature. It was mounted to a decorated stand, which I made from five layers of cereal boxes glued together. Then they are painted with acrylic paint. Extra texture came from bits of sand and beauty bark, paintbrush bristles, wire, and cut paper (the daisies).
